Non-English speaking callers and callers with hearing or speech impairments

You are still able to access the Samaritans service if English is not your first language or you have hearing or speech impairments.  We have access to two services that help us do this:

The Translating and Interpretation Service (TIS)

What is it?

TIS is an interpreting service provided by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection to provide interpreting services for Non English speakers. The service is available 24/7.

If you would like to access this service, call us on our normal number – 13 52 47 – and ask the person who takes your call that you would like to use the TIS service.  You can still remain anonymous to use this service.

The National Relay Service (NRS)

What is it?

This is a service available to callers with hearing or speech impairments. A relay officer relays your words to us and/or our words to you.

If you would like to use this service, please call NRS on 133 677 and they will take you through the process.
